Loss to Blue Jays drops Halos into last

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, losing for the eighth times in nine games, tumbled into last place in the American League West with their 7-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at home.

angelslogoAndrelton Simmons provided a rare bright spot for the Halos (63-83) when he hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Simmons had two of the Angels’ six hits; Albert Pujols had two as well.

Daniel Wright (0-3) worked five innings, giving up four hits and three runs. He walked three batters and struck out three. Five relievers didn’t do much better, yielding six hits and four runs the rest of the way.

The Angels fell into last when the Oakland A’s defeated the Kansas City Royals 14-5 to improve to 64-82. Next up for the Halos is another game against the Blue Jays Friday, with Jered Weaver (11-11) making the start for the Angels.
