GWC wins upset, Chapman, Ducks fall

A 40-yard field goal with two seconds left in the game by Quinton Conaway lifted the Golden West College football team sportsbriefsto a 20-17 upset win over previously unbeaten Saddleback College on Saturday.
Adam Vance passed for 177 yards and one score as GWC improved to 2-4 overall, and dropped Saddleback to 5-1 in the game at LeBard Stadium on the Orange Coast College campus.

The Rustlers will play their first-ever game on their Huntington Beach campus on Saturday in an observance of the school’s 50th anniversary hosting the Palomar College Comets.

Panthers lose to Whittier

Chapman University’s football team lost 34-10 to Whittier College Saturday on the road in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. The Panthers fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC action.

Ricky Bautista led Chapman with 252 yards passing and two touchdowns. On the ground, Joe Mudle had 84 yards on 10 carries.

The Anaheim Ducks are still winless and pointless two games into the 2016-17 NHL season after losing 3-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Cam Fowler and Corey Perry scored for the Ducks. In goal, Jonathan Bernier made 42 saves for Anaheim. Next up for the Ducks (0-2) are the Islanders (0-2) Sunday in New York.
