Edison High School was the sole survivor of teams from the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area in CIF-SS quarterfinal play Friday night. The Chargers (11-1) ran past Buena Park to advance to next week’s semifinal round.
Garden Grove (9-3) and Rancho Alamitos (7-5) finished their season with losses.
Edison 38, Buena Park 21: The Chargers are headed to a CIF-SS semifinal game against Rancho Verde after their win at Cap Sheue Field in Huntington Beach. Jack Carmichael rushed for two scores for the green-and-gold and brother Kenny Carmichael starred on defense, forcing one fumble and grabbing an interception.
Yorba Linda 20, Garden Grove 17: Cole Magliano kicked a 30-yard field goal with seven second left to play as the Mustangs edged the Argonauts at Grove’s field. Yorba Linda took a 17-7 lead but the Argos were able to knot the game up in the fourth quarter. Ruben Mendoza rushed for 130 yards and passed for 51 more.
Valley View 50, Rancho Alamitos 13: Blake Culbert passed for 133 yards and a touchdown as the Vaqueros lost in Moreno Valley. Miguel Rosales had 43 yards rushing. Cross Faletol had eight catches for 85 yards and one score.
