
A 73-YEAR-OLD Huntington Beach man died after he was struck by a car Saturday night while riding an electric scooter.
An investigation continues into the death of a man who was struck by a car while he as riding an electric “mobility scooter” Saturday night in Huntington Beach. The man was identified by the Orange County coroner Monday as Richard Jeans, Jr., 73, of Huntington Beach.
According to Huntington Beach police, the incident occurred around 7:21 p.m. in the area of Beach Boulevard and Taylor Drive. They believe that the man was riding his Golden Companion scooter across Beach outside of a marked crosswalk. He was struck by a Mazda Protege which was traveling northbound.
The man was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where was died from his injuries. No citations were issued and no arrests were made. It doesn’t appear that alcohol or other forms of impairment were a factor, according to police.
