Eight local hoop teams ranked

Eight high school basketball teams from the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area were ranked in the CIF-SS polls released on Tuesday and the Open Division Watch List announced on Monday.

In the boys’ Open Division, Edison High School is listed. In Division 3AA, Ocean View is 13th. Pacifica is 13th in Division 3A and Bolsa Grande is 15th in Division 4AA.

On the girls’ side, Orangewood is on the Open Division list and ranked eighth in Division 1A. Ocean View is 16th in Division 2A. Pacifica is tied for second in the Division 3AA poll, with La Quinta 15th in 4AA. Los Amigos is 12th in Division 4A.

In other winter sports polls, in girls’ water polo, Huntington Beach is ranked 10th in Division 1, while Marina is seventh in D-3. Garden Grove is eighth in Division 6.

In boys’ soccer, two local teams are ranked number one in their division. Santiago is first in Division 3, while district and league rival Garden Grove is first in Division 4.

Edison is fifth in Division 1.

SPARTANS SQUEEZE ORANGE

The Orangewood Academy boys’ basketball team defeated Orange High 50-38 Monday in a non-league game at the Panther gym. Uriel Baustisa led the Spartans and all scorers with 21 points. OA is now 4-14, while OHS is now 6-6.
