Moderate to heavy rain is lashing parts of the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area Thursday evening. The probability of rainfall in the area is expected to drop off to 20 percent on Friday and 10 percent over the weekend.
Daytime temperatures will range from the 60s to low and mid-50s; night time temps will drop into the mid-40s.
A planned fly-over of the Huntington Beach Pier area Thursday morning was cancelled because of the rainy weather. The U.S. Navy aerial acrobatic team is scheduled to perform at the second annual Breitling Air Show in Huntington Beach planned for Sept. 30-Oct.1 , 2017.
A traffic collision in the area of Hoover Street and Brooklawn in Westminster was reported this evening by police. A car struck a power pole, causing electrical outages in the area. Workers from Southern California Edison are on the scene and power is expected to be restored shortly. There were no injuries in the crash.
Some flooding is expected in low-lying areas. In Garden Grove, sandbags are available at Fire Stations 2, 3 and 4. In Huntington Beach, sandbags are available at the city’s corporation yard (17371 Gothard), the Edison Community Center (21377 Magnolia) and Warner Fire Station (3831 Warner Ave.)
