An explosion and fire in an industrial building in West Garden Grove was reported Friday morning.
According to Capt. Brad Spell of the Garden Grove Fire Department, the incident began at 7:48 a.m. at 7300 Anaconda. The blaze was contained to a corner of the building that involved metal dust production. Units remained after the fire was put out to check for possible extension or re-ignition of the flammable materials involved.
State Sen. Janet Nguyen (R-Garden Grove) was escorted from the floor of the state Senate Thursday as she attempted to speak on the Vietnam War. The Senate had honored the late Tom Hayden, who was made famous for his opposition to American participation in the war.
Nguyen started to speak in criticism of Hayden when she was ruled out of order. Her microphone was silenced and she was ordered to be seated, but she continued to speak. She was finally escorted out of the chamber by the sergeant at arms.
Republican legislators are calling an investigation of the incident, arguing that is violated Nguyen’s “First Amendment rights.”
