TGIF: Time for cute ducks, ugly aliens

A XENOMORPH in the new sci-fi film “Alien: Covenant,” out this weekend.

Ducks and danger will highlight this weekend’s entertainment. Here’s what’s fun in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.

Films opening at local cinemas:

  • “Alien: Covenant.” Latest in the series of “Alien” movies, but really a prequel to the famous one. Ugly critters versus frightened but feisty humans. Rated R. Starring Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston. Ridley Scott directs.
  • “Everything, Everything.” A girl who’s allergic to almost everything finds the courage to venture outside. Starring Amandia Stenberg and Nick Robinson. Rated PG-13.
  • “Diary of Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.” Middle-school nerd goes on a road trip with his parents. Rated PG-13.

“Murder on the High C’s” is at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster this weekend Thursday through Sunday. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The 25th annual AltaMed Huntington Beach Community Clinic Duck-A-Thon will be held Friday through Sunday at the city pier.
