Landau, 89, was 2008 grand marshal

MARTIN LANDAU, 89, died on Saturday. He was celebrity grand marshal of the 2008 Garden Grove Strawberry Festival.

Martin Landau, the Academy Award-winning actor and celebrity grand marshal of the 2008 Garden Grove Strawberry Festival, died on Saturday at the age of 89, his publicist announced on Sunday.

Landau won the 1994 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the film “Ed Wood,” about the making of one of the worst films ever made. He played horror movie star Bela Lugosi.

Perhaps best-known for his role as Rollin Hand in the TV series “Mission Impossible” in the Sixties, Landau only won the 1994 Oscar, he was nominated twice more – in 1988 for his role in “Tucker” and again in 1989 for “Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

In addition to his television work with “Mission” in which he co-starred with wife Barbara Bain, he also had a lead role (again, with Bain) in the critically-ridiculed British sci-fi show “Space: 1999.”

  1. His daughter also appeared in the Gen Theatre in the late 80’s and he attended several performances as did his ex wife Barbara Bain
