League play starts with a Cavalier win

LEAGUE PLAY started for seven area high school football teams Friday night.

League play started Friday night for several high school football teams in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area as the race toward conference crowns and CIF-SS playoffs berths began.

Here are the results. More details will be posted as they become available.

GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE

  • Santiago 53, Bolsa Grande 13: The Cavaliers improved to 4-2 overall in this GGL opener Friday night. Bolsa went to 1-5.
  • Rancho Alamitos 50, Los Amigos 7: The Vaqueros opened GGL play with a big win over the Lobos, improving their overall record to 4-2. Los Amigos (1-5) suffered its fifth straight loss.

GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE

  • Segerstrom 28, Ocean View 13: Noah Hickman passed for 168 yards and two scores for the Seahawks, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an early Jaguar lead in this GWL opener. OVHS is now 4-2 overall.
  • Santa Ana 28, Westminster 21: In a battle of two strong teams, the Lions (4-2 overall) came up just short in losing to the Saints (5-1).

SUNSET LEAGUE

  • Fountain Valley 35, Marina 21: The Vikings led 21-13 after three quarters but couldn’t withstand three fourth quarter TDs by the Barons (5-1). Ian Green threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns for Marina (3-3).
