Feel like celebrating the first big fall holiday with a lot of candy and a bit of play-acting? Well, local cities and others have scared up a lot of Halloween activities for the enjoyment of kids and grownups alike.
Here’s a partial list of the ghoul-ish fun in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area through Oct. 31.
Garden Grove
The 16th annual Jack O’Lantern Jamboree event is set for Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Atlantis Play Center is located at 13630 Atlantis Way in Garden Grove Park.
Activities at the event include a train ride, carnival games, crafts, bounce houses, goodies, magic show, airbrushed tattoos, and an Instagram giveaway.
Ticket prices are $8 per person. The tickets are limited to the first 300 children who will receive a free pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch. Children 2-years-old and under are free. Only cash or credit cards are accepted. There will be no ticket sales at the door.
Ticket sales for Jack O’Lantern Jamboree will be sold through Thursday, Oct. 26, or until quantities run out. Tickets may be purchased at the Recreation Counter, located on the first floor of Garden Grove City Hall, at 11222 Acacia Parkway. To order by phone, or for more information, call (714) 741-5200.
Huntington Beach
- The Downtown Business Improvement District will host a Halloween Fest on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 4-8 p.m. on Main Street near to Pacific Coast Highway. Activities will include trick-or-treating, a petting zoo, a costume contest and more. All kids activities are free.
- A Halloween Readathon will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 in the Talbert Room of the Huntington Beach Central Library. Spooky stories for all ages will be read from 1-2 p.m., and from 2-4 p.m. it’s “terrifying tales” for older kids. The library is at 7111 Talbert Ave. at Goldenwest Street.
- A Halloween Pumpkin Carving and Costume Contest will be held on Saturday. Oct. 28 at the City Gym and Pool 1600 Palm Ave., from 6-8 p.m. $20 fee per family; $5 additional pumpkin. Call for reservations: (714) 960-8884.
Westminster
An evening of trick-or-treating is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Westminster Mall. Kids ages 6 to 12 are invited to make the rounds of participating stores to get candy from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and play nickel carnival games at the lower level Macy’s court.
Families are invited to attend in costume, but those 13 and over may not wear masks. The event is sponsored by the City of Westminster and Westminster Mall. For more information, call (714) 895-2860 or go to www.westminster-ca.gov . The mall is located on Bolsa Avenue at Goldenswest Street.
