A traffic collision in Garden Grove Saturday night took the life of one person and sent another to jail. According to police, the incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Haster Street and Aspenwood Lane.
Arriving police officers found a 1997 Toyota Tercel that had come to rest against the side of an apartment building and a 2007 Volkswagen Golf along the east curb of Haster Street.
Police believe that the VW was traveling eastbound on Aspenwood when it ran past a stop sign across Haster and collided with the Toyota, which was moving southbound on Haster.
The driver of the Toyota, identified only as a male, was trapped inside his vehicle. Firefighters removed the roof of the car to find that driver – the sole occupant of the car – was dead.
In the Volkswagen were a driver and a passenger, both males. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver appeared to be driving under the influence, according to police, and after being treated was arrested and booked into Orange County Jail.
Witnesses are asked to call GGPD Traffic Investigator Royce Wimmer at (714) 741-5823.
