The blockbuster holiday movie season hasn’t quite started yet, and the local stages are – mostly – dark, but there are still quite a few options for entertainment and amusement in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area this weekend. Here’s a look.
Movies: “Thor” drops the hammer in “Ragnarok”
The big release is “Thor: Ragnarok,” a Marvel superhero film revolving around the Norse god. He’s imprisoned and must escape to help stop the end of the world. Sci-fi action and comedy starring Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and Mark Ruffalo. Rated PG-13.
Other films of note include:
• “LBJ” is a drama about the rise and presidency of Lyndon Johnson (Woody Harrelson) with a special focus on the passage of the 1964 Civil Right Act. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bill Pullman. Rated R for strong language.
- “Last Flag Flying.” A father travels with two old friends for the burial of his son, killed fighting in Iraq. Starring Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne and Steve Carell. Rated R.
Stage: “On Golden Pond” opens
The Westminster Community Theater will open its production of “On Golden Pond” on Friday. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. 7272 Maple St., Westminster. For more information, go to www.wcpstage.com
Sports: Ducks take on the Preds
The Anaheim Ducks will host the Nashville Predators at Honda Center Friday at 7 p.m.
