A THREE-CAR crash on the Garden Grove Freeway Thursday morning left one man dead and three injured (GGFD photo).

One man is dead and three others injured after a crash on the Garden Grove Freeway Thursday morning. According to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the Garden Grove Fire Department, the accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, west of Beach Boulevard.

Three vehicles were involved with a disabled car on the shoulder. That car had not been involved in the original collision, but one of the passengers – possibly the driver – got out of his vehicle after pulling over. He was struck by a passing vehicle and that auto struck a wall and created a three-car chain reaction crash.

The man struck while on foot was pronounced dead on the scene. His identity has not been released. Three others were taken to area hospitals with two considered trauma victims.

Assistance to the GGFD was provided by units of the Orange County Fire Authority, and the cause of the accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

“Motorists who are stranded on the highway are urged to remain in their vehicles, and call for assistance,” said Capt. Nguyen.
