
LA QUINTA HIGH’S football team lost its CIF-SS Division 13 semifinal game Friday night to Silver Valley 49-40.
The La Quinta Aztec football team finished an impressive season with a high-scoring loss to Silver Valley Friday night in the CIF-SS Division 13 semifinals. The blue-and-gold fell 49-40 after battling back all night in the game in the desert town of Yermo.
With the loss, LQHS completed an 11-2 season that included not just achieving the semifinals but also in taking second in the Garden Grove League.
The other local team in the Division 13 semifinals is Orange (10-2), which will host Santa Clara (10-2) Saturday night at Fred Kelly Stadium on the El Modena High campus. The winner of that game will face Silver Valley (9-3) in the finals on Dec. 2.
Ducks fall behind and fall to Jets
The Anaheim Ducks fell behind early and couldn’t recover in their 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets at Honda Center Friday night. The loss dropped the Ducks (10-9-3, 23 points) back into sixth place in the NHL Pacific.
Winnipeg scored twice in the first period, but Anaheim countered at 5:46 of the second with a goal by Francois Beauchemin. But that was all the scoring the Orange County team could muster, while the Jets added a pair of goals.
John Gibson had 32 saves in goal for Anaheim. Next up for the Ducks will be a game on Monday in Chicago against the Black Hawks (10-8-3).
