An apartment fire in Huntington Beach on Thursday morning gutted one unit but was kept from spreading by the quick action of firefighters.

According to Eric McCoy, public information officer for the Huntington Beach Police Department, the fire was at 4901 Heil Ave. (near Bolsa Chica Road) and was reported shortly before 10 a.m.

Six HBFD units responded, along with help from the Fountain Valley Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Authority. Arriving firefighters found fire and smoke coming from the front door.

En route to the incident, they were informed by a dispatcher of a person who might be inside the burning building. Firefighters attacked the blaze and rescued a person, who was evaluated by HBPD paramedics and released at the scene.

While the apartment with the fire was heavily damaged, the blaze was limited to that one unit. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
