TGIF: Bullets, bears and “Fiddler” on tap

“PADDINGTON 2” opens on Friday in local cinemas.

The new year is slowly getting underway with new entertainment choices for the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area. Here’s what the weekend … and beyond … looks like.


The three big releases opening locally include two dramas and an animated comedy.

  • “The Commuter.” Liam Neeson is back as the over-50 action hero of choice as he gets caught up in mystery on board a speeding train. Rated PG-13.
  • “ Proud Mary.” A professional assassin comes to the aid of a young boy. Starring Taraji Henson. Rated R.
  • “Paddington 2.” A stolen book sends everyone’s favorite little bear into action. Rated PG.


“Fiddler On The Roof” opens on Friday at the Westminster Community Playhouse, 7272 Maple St. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. For more, go to
