Car smashes into pole; electricity cut off

A VEHICLE struck a power pole in south Garden Grove Tuesday night, knocking out power in the area until the next morning (GGPD photo).

Electrical power was knocked out to over 200 customers in south Garden Grove Tuesday night when a car crashed into a utility pole near Trask Avenue.

According to the Garden Grove Police Department, a 17-year-old boy smashed a sedan into the pole in the area of Galway Street and Trask between Magnolia and Brookhurst streets around 8:15 p.m.

Arriving police and fire units found the car smoldering and the pole completely sheared from the ground.

Power was cut off to adjacent neighborhoods. Southern California Edison crews were able to restore electricity about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver was taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment for his injuries, which were not considered to be life-threatening.
