Eight locals advance; Ducks in fourth

EIGHT LOCAL high school sports teams won first round CIF-SS games on Thursday.

Eight local school sports teams posted wins on Thursday night in the CIF-SS playoffs for girls’ basketball, girls’ soccer and girls’ water polo.

Here are the scores for teams serving the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

  • Division 1: Orangewood 39, Valencia/Valencia 38
  • Division 2A: Edison 48, Tustin 33
  • Division 3AA: San Clemente 57, Ocean View 52
  • Division 4A: Bolsa Grande 62, Santa Ana 55
  • Division 4AA: St. Bonaventure 64, La Quinta 32

GIRLS’ SOCCER

  • Division 1: Los Osos, Edison 2 (LO wins on penalty kicks); Huntington Beach 1, San Juan Hills 1 (HB wins on penalty kicks).

Henrique wins it as Anaheim passes L.A.

Adam Henrique scored what proved to be the game-winner in the third period Thursday night as the Anaheim Ducks rallied to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks in the Windy City.

His goal capped a rally in which the Ducks overcame a 2-0 deficit with goals by Ondrej Kase and Nick Ritchie. Henrique’s goal came at the 8:34 mark. John Gibson had 42 saves in goal for the visitors.

The win allowed the Ducks (28-20-11) to move into fourth place in the NHL Pacific Division, breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Kings. Next up is a game Saturday in the Twin Cities to take on the Minnesota Wild (31-20-6).
