A 31-year-old man was fatally shot by Garden Grove Police Department investigators in Santa Ana late Friday night.
According to Lt. Carl Whitney, public information officer for the GGPD, the incident occurred at 11:33 p.m. The investigators were conducting surveillance on a wanted subject, and had found him in the parking lot of a 7-11 store at 1700 East Dyer Road in Santa Ana.
The man was wanted for a “no bail” warrant for violation of parole. Investigators contacted the man in his vehicle, and the shooting took place, according to Lt. Whitney. The suspect was shot “multiple times” and received medical aid from the investigators and then paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority.
He was then taken to a local trauma center, where he was declared dead at 12:10 a.m. Saturday. The GGPD investigators were not injured.
The incident is being investigated by the Orange County District Attorney’s office and the Santa Ana Police Department. The man is only being described as a male Hispanic; his name won’t be released until his next of kin can be notified.
