After 30 games, the journey of the 2017-18 Pacifica High School girls’ soccer team came to an end Thursday night at Monsoor Stadium on the Garden Grove High School campus.
The Mariners lost 4-0 to Our Lady of Peace’s Pilots in the CIF Southern California Regional semifinals, concluding a campaign that included an Empire League title, a trip to the CIF-SS finals and, no doubt, memories that will last a lifetime.
PHS finished with a 22-5-3 record, while the visitors from San
Diego will take their 23-1-2 mark into the regional finals against Flintridge Prep of La Canada, the same team which defeated Pacifica 3-1 in the CIF-SS Division 3 championship game.
In Thursday’s highly physical game, the visitors got off to the faster start, getting three goals in the first half.
The Mariners regrouped in the second half and challenged repeatedly on offense, but were unable to score. Pacifica goalkeeper Kyleigh Tran kept the M’s in the game with some deft grabs and dives.
In the Division 5 CIF SoCal regional semifinal, Westminster lost 4-0 to Paloma Valley. The Lions finish the season with a 22-5-3 record as well as a Golden West League title and a trip to the Division 5 finals.
