Aztecs ascend to top of Grove League

LA QUINTA HIGH’S baseball team leads the Garden Grove League baseball race with a win over Rancho Alamitos.

La Quinta High’s baseball team – which rallied late in 2017 to tie with Garden Grove High for the Garden Grove League title – is back on top again.

The Aztecs defeated Rancho Alamitos 2-0 on Friday to move all alone into the top position in the GGL. LQHS is now 3-0 in league (5-5 overall) and RAHS is 2-1 in league and 7-3 overall.

In other GGL action, Garden Grove defeated Santiago 3-1 to move into a tie with Rancho for second. The Argos are 2-1 in league and 5-3 over all. Additionally, Los Amigos (1-2, 1-7) bested Bolsa Grande (1-2, 6-3) by a score of 13-4.

In the Golden West League, Ocean View beat Westminster 4-0 and Orange edged Segerstrom 7-6. Santa Ana tops the league at 2-0, followed by Ocean View (2-1) and Orange (4-2).

Non-league play saw Pacifica fall 13-1 to El Modena.

In softball action, Edison defeated Laguna Hills 4-1.
