Aztecs to host Vaqs in big game

LA QUINTA and Rancho Alamitos won on Friday to set up their showdown Tuesday for the Garden Grove League baseball lead.

The game of the year for Garden Grove League baseball will on be Tuesday when La Quinta hosts Rancho Alamitos in a battle for the GGL crown. Both teams will go into the game – the 10th of the league season – with 8-1 conference marks.

On Friday, Rancho Alamitos defeated Bolsa Grande 8-4 and La Quinta bested Santiago 8-4.

In the Empire League, the two leaders – Pacifica and Cypress – are keeping pace with each other for a likely showdown on May 8 and 10. On Friday Pacifica (4-0 in league) outlasted Western 7-5 in nine innings. Cypress is also 4-0.

The Golden West League race is the most tangled in the area. Segerstrom is 6-2 in league, trailed by Ocean View (6-3), and Loara (4-4) and Santa Ana (4-4).

On Friday, Segerstrom defeated Westminster 3-1 and Santa Ana beat Orange 4-2.

Huntington Beach High wrapped up the Sunset League crown with its 9-0 win over Marina. The Oilers (9-0 in the SL) can look forward now to a run toward the CIF-SS Division 1 title that evaded them last season.
