HUNTINGTON HARBOUR will get its own commission, the Huntington Beach City Council decided on Monday night (SurfCity USA photo).

Huntington Harbour, one of the the city’s most luxurious and unique areas, will be getting its own commission.

At Monday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council, the creation of such a panel was approved on a 6-0 vote with Councilman William O’Connell absent for the vote.

Councilmembers Erik Peterson and Lyn Semeta proposed the creation of a “Harbour Commission” to advise the city council on matters  such as the use, control, operation, promotion and regulation of vessels and watercraft within Huntington Harbour, proposed improvements and other changes.

The Harbour is a community in the northwest part of the city with about 3,500 residents. It includes marinas for boating and five man-made islands.

Also on Monday, a proposal to change to council meeting schedule from from first and third Mondays to first and third Tuesdays was withdrawn from consideration.

The change in meeting days was suggested by Councilman Patrick Brenden. In a letter to his colleagues on the council, Brenden wrote that a Monday meeting schedule “conflicts with holidays most often. In 2018 there  are four occasions upon which the regular city council meeting falls on a holiday. In 2017, there were five such occasions.”
