Administrators from the Garden Grove Unified School District and their guests filled a ballroom at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Garden Grove on Monday night for the annual community dinner of the GGUSD’s School Administrators’ Association.

With a theme of “Feeling Groovy,” the educators and guests heard comments about the successes of the district and were entertained by:

• Bolsa Grande High string ensemble;

• Bolsa Grande High pianists;

• Faylane Elementary School chorus;

• GGUSD Intermediate Honor Orchestra;

• Justin Pham, solo violinist from La Quinta High;

• Los Amigos High dance team.

Tahnee Phan, president of the GGSAA, and Gabriela Mafi, district superintendent, addressed the assembly.

The GGUSD is the third-largest public school system in Orange County and serves not only most of Garden Grove but also parts of Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana and Westminster.

OVSD honored for school attendance

The School Attendance Review Board of the Ocean View School District was been awarded a “Model SARB” award by the California Department of Education, one of only 16 awarded statewide.

OVSD’s SARB was commended for its collaboration among members and a great variety of services, including meeting the needs of students having trouble with school attendance.

The OVSD is a K-8 district serving northern Huntington Beach as well as parts of Fountain Valley, Westminster and Midway City.
