Operation Surf helps wounded vets

OPERATION SURF returns to Huntington Beach. It’s a program for wounded military veterans, including amputees.

Operation Surf will return to Huntington Beach this weekend. The program, aimed at helping wounded veterans discover new abilities and make friends, will start on Monday, June 4 with opening ceremonies at the Pier Plaza at Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

The veterans will arrive on Sunday at John Wayne Airport and travel to the Pasea Hotel and Spa in Huntington Beach. There will be a motorcade through Main Street around 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Opening ceremonies will be held on Monday at 4 p.m. at Pier Plaza. The surf program, involving 26 veterans including several multiple amputees, Huntington Beach surf instructors and hundreds of volunteers, will run Monday to Friday.
