THE CHECKERED flag is waved as two pushcarts races into the finish line at the bottom of “Springdale Hill” for the 10th Annual Cub Scout Pushcart Derby in Garden Grove on March 20, 2011 (File photo).
Garden Grove doesn’t actually have any hills, but where there’s a will, there’s a hill. Sort of.
The 16th annual Cub Scout Pushcart Derby will be held on Saturday on Springdale “Hill,” which is actually just an overpass as Springdale Street arches over the Garden Grove (22) Freeway.
It’s hosted by West Garden Grove Cub Scout Pack 271 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 12700 Springdale. About 100 Scouts ages 6 to 11 will participate in the event, racing handmade pushcart vehicles down “hill.”
That will require some street closures. Springdale will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. from the freeway to Lampson Avenue. OCTA bus routes will not be affected. For information on the street closure, call (714) 5823.
