
THE ANAHEIM Ducks won their third straight game, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves to advance to the NL Championship series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Anaheim Ducks celebrated the home opener of their 25th season with a shootout victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Honda Center Monday night. It was their third straight win in the early season and they sit atop with NHL Pacific Division with six points.
Rookie Troy Terry scored the game-winner in the shootout after a scoreless overtime. John Gibson remained impressive in goal, getting 29 saves in regular time and being perfect in the shootout. The Ducks are next in action on Wednesday hosting the Arizona Coyotes (0-2).
Dodgers advance to league series
Manny Machado’s three-run home run in the seventh inning propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday and into the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers won the series three games to one.
Clayton Kershaw will get the start when the series starts in Milwaukee against the Brewers on Friday.
The Dodgers were clinging to a 3-2 lead until Machado’s blast. He ended up two hits and four RBIs. It was his second home run of the series. The win went to Ryan Madison, who worked a perfect 2/3 of an inning in the fifth.
