The start of a jury trial and a continued arraignment are scheduled for today (Friday) in two high profile Huntington Beach homicide cases.
Alexander Louis Antal is on trial in Central Justice Center in Santa Ana for the murder of Micheal Urso, his former Huntington Beach roommate. According to the Orange County District Attorney, Antal was playing video games with Michael Urso, 32, on July 17, 2012 when he allegedly fatally stabbed the victim with a knife and fled the scene.
Other people living in the home heard screaming and rushed to his aid, calling 911, but the victim died at the scene. At about 3:45 a.m., Huntington Beach police located and arrested the defendant at the Santa Ana River Bridge, recovering a knife on the ground a few feet from him.
The arraignment – also in Santa Ana – involves Cynthia Roberta Strange, 64, accused of killing her 92-year-old mother for financial gain.
On Sept. 4, HBPD officers went to a home in the 6800 block of Vista Del Sol Drive to check on the welfare of Ruth Strange after a citizen called to tell police they were unable to contact her after going to her home to pick her up for a doctor’s appointment.
Police entered the home and found Ruth dead and detectives began investigating the case due to “suspicious circumstances.” Her body was found in the pool, with multiple cuts to the head.
Over the next four weeks, detectives developed information and evidence leading to Cynthia Strange as the suspect, according to authorities.
