League play approaching for locals

LEAGUE play will start next week for most local high school basketball teams.

Although most local high school basketball teams are enmeshed in tournament action now, league play is right around the corner. Most teams from schools serving Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster will begin league play on Friday, Jan. 4.

So far, among boys’ teams, the most successful have included Garden Grove (13-2), Pacifica (13-3) and Edison (13-5). On the girls’ side, the top teams look to include Santiago (12-3) and La Quinta (11-3).

We’ll have a more complete look at the high school hoops scene on Tuesday (Jan. 1) along with our first High 5 rankings of the hoops year in our Prep Sport Spotlight.
