A suspect has been arrested in the death of a manicurist from Garden Grove who was run over by a patron who was allegedly leaving a Las Vegas, Nevada nail salon without paying.
According to police, Krystal Whipple, 21, was arrested in Glendora, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix.
The incident occurred on Dec. 29, when a woman – whom police believe to be Whipple – sought to pay for a $35 manicure. The card was declined and the woman told the manicurist – Ngoc Q. Nguyen, 51 – she was going to her car to get cash for payment.
Nguyen followed the woman to her car, and stood in front of the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated and struck Nguyen, who died from her injuries.
Police say the car had been stolen and was found abandoned. The declined card was pronounced “fraudulent.”
Authorities in Las Vegas are reported to be planning to extradite Whipple back to Nevada on charges of murder and robbery.
