Shot on goal! But no luck once again

The worst is staying worst.

With just 142 goals so far this dismal season, the Anaheim Ducks have the feeblest offense in the entire National Hockey League. They continued to find themselves hanging on to that dubious distinction with a 3-0 loss to the Las Vegas Golden Knights Friday at Honda Center.

The Ducks got regular starting goalie John Gibson back in the nets after a nine-game absence due to a variety of ailments. It helped, as Gibson had 32 saves, but the Ducks couldn’t bury any of their 34 attempts.

Corey Perry said “If you’re not getting chances, you’re not doing something right. But if you’re getting chances, you’re doing something right. It’s a tough league to score goals in. You might get one or two in a game, and that’s it. You have to make good on those opportunities. Unfortunately, tonight it didn’t happen.”

In a nod toward a stronger offense, the Ducks announced they had signed right wing Jakob Silfverberg for a five-year contract extension. He’s one of the team’s top scorers, with 109 games and 124 assists in his career.
