Ducks are skunked; HB Oilers slide by

THE ANAHEIM DUCKS lost 3-0 to Winnipeg on Wednesday and Huntington Beach High beat Los Alamitos in baseball (Shutterstock).

The Anaheim Ducks missed a chance to move into a tie for sixth place in the NHL Pacific Division when they lost 3-0 Wednesday to the Winnipeg Jets.

Jet goalie Connor Hellebuyck turned aside all 29 shots on goal fired by the Ducks, whose record went to 30-36-9, good for 69 points and seventh place in the division.

The win improved Winnipeg’s record to 44-25-4. The Jets’ 92 points places them in first place in the Central Division.

Next up for the Ducks will be a game on Friday in which they host the San Jose Sharks  (43-22-8, 94 points) who are in second place in the NHL Pacific.

Oilers outlast the Griffins, 9-7

Huntington Beach High’s nationally-ranked baseball team posted a Sunset/Surf League 9-7 win over Los Alamitos High on the Oiler field. The win improved the orange-and-black to 2-0 in league and 11-2 overall. It was HB’s fifth straight win.

Edison kept pace with a 4-2 win over Fountain Valley. The Barons (10-5 overall) will host the Oilers on Saturday in a battle for the league lead.
