12 dead, others hurt in Va. shooting

TWELVE PEOPLE are dead and others wounded in a workplace shooting Friday afternoon in Virginia Beach, Virginia (Shutterstock).

SECOND UPDATE: The shooter has been identfied by CNN as DeWayne Craddock, 40, an engineer in the public utilities department of Virginia Beach.

UPDATE: The death toll of victims in the Virginia Beach shootings has been raised to 12, according to authorities.

Eleven people are dead and six others wounded in a shooting rampage at a city building in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the Associated Press and other news sources are reporting.

The gunman, reportedly an unhappy employee of the city’s public utilities department, was fatally shot by police. His name was not released by authorities.

Local hospitals are treating the six wounded people, one of whom is a police officer.

The shooter entered a building adjacent to the main city hall and opened fire. 

Details of the incident are still not unavailable, including what sort of weapon was used. More information should be released later today.
