This week is about saying hello to summer-like weather, and goodbye to high school for thousands of local graduates. Here’s our Monday Briefing of what to expect this week for those of us in the communities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.
WEATHER: The thermometer will be jumping this week in West Orange County, although summer is still technically more than a week away.
According to National Weather Service predictions, here’s the outlook by city:
- Garden Grove: Mostly sunny with clouds later in the week. High of 86 declining to 74 by Friday.
- Huntington Beach: Mostly sunny with highs ranging from 79 to 68.
- Stanton: Sunny with clouds later in the week. Highs start at 86 and decline to 73 by Friday.
- Westminster: Sunny days with a high of 86 on Monday, then dropping to 72 by Friday.
MEETINGS:A lot of local government meetings with some high-profile issues.
- Garden Grove City Council will meet on Tuesday and take up the issue of whether to adopt a policy on the display of commemorative flags at City Hall. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m.
Also on Tuesday the Stanton City Council will consider the annual city budget. That’s at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, the Huntington Beach Union High School District Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m.
- Westminster City Council will meet on Wednesday and consider adoption of a new and expanded code of conduct for council members. The meeting is at 7 p.m.
- Westminster School District Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m.
AND … Don’t forget that Friday is Flag Day – bring out your Stars and Stripes – and Sunday is Father’s Day. No ties, please.
GRADUATION: Local high schools will be holding their commencement exercises this week. The Huntington Beach system will hold its graduations on Wednesday and Thursday while Garden Grove’s will be on Thursday and Friday. Check with your local high school for times, dates and location.
ENTERTAINMENT: The major film release this Friday will be a remake of “Shaft,” starring Samuel L. Jackson in the title role. It’s rated R.
- On stage entertainment will include a production of “Frozen Jr.” at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster, and “The Dottie Maraschino Show” at the Gem Theater in Garden Grove. Both are set for Friday and Saturday.
