Woman, 21, fights off a kidnap attempt

A 21-YEAR-OLD Garden Grove woman used pepper-spray to fight off a would-be kidnapper (Shutterstock).

An attempted kidnapping in Garden Grove Wednesday afternoon was foiled when the intended victim pepper-sprayed her assailant and escaped his grasp.

According to Sgt. Juan Centeno of the GGPD, the incident took place on Bixby Avenue west of Brookhurst Street at around 1:32 p.m.

A 21-year-old Garden Grove woman was walking eastbound on Bixby when she noticed a minivan driving slowly behind her. A man stepped out of the van and began to walk behind her, so she took a pepper-spray device from her purse.

He grabbed her by the arm and started to pull her toward the open door of the van when she sprayed her attacker, who let her go. He ran back to the van, which traveled eastbound toward Brookhurst Street.

The suspects were described as:

  • a male Hispanic, 5-foot, 9-inches tall, weighing about 140 lbs, 20 to 30 years old, wearing black clothing;
  • a male Hispanic, 5-foot, 9-inches tall, weighing about 140 lbs, 20 to 30 years old, wearing black clothing;
  • a male Hispanic wearing a black beanie-style hat (the driver).

The suspect vehicle was described as a silver or light green colored minivan.
