Illegal fireworks and more are seized

ILLEGAL FIREWORKS, firearms and illegal drugs were seized by Garden Grove police this week (GGPD photo).

Police in Garden Grove and Westminster have seized large amounts of illegal fireworks as well as other unlawful items this past week.

In Garden Grove, the police department’s special investigations unit – responding to a neighborhood complaint in the area of Brookhurst Street and Chapman Avenue – served a search warrant on Friday that resulted in the confiscation of several loaded handguns, a loaded sawed-off shotgun, a half-pound of “meth,” a quarter-pound of heroin, cash and a big stash of illegal fireworks. Three adults were arrested.

In Westminster on Wednesday, detectives seized 80 pounds of illegal fireworks from people trying to sell them, according to the WPD.

Man’s body is found in Westminster

Police in Westminster found the body of a man – believed to be homeless – in the area of Locust Street and Westminster Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday.

The case is being investigated as a possible homicide. The deceased man, believed to be in his 40s, had some facial injuries, according to police.

HB crash victim is identified by coroner

A man who died after being struck by a truck in Huntington Beach on Wednesday has been identified by the Orange County Coroner’s office.

The decedent is Jason Cahua, 26, of Huntington Beach. According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, he was walking in the area of Magnolia Street and Adams Avenue around 5 a.m. when he was hit by a pickup truck. He was treated at the scene and transported to UCI Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
