A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled in the case of a woman accused of killing her 92-year-old mother – a resident of Huntington Beach – for financial gain.

Cynthia Roberta Strange will be in West Justice Center in Westminster on Sept. 20 to answer for the death of Ruth Strange.

On Sept. 4, 2018, HBPD officers went to a home in the 6800 block of Vista Del Sol Drive to check on the welfare of Ruth Strange. A citizen a citizen had called police to say they were unable to contact her after going to her home to pick her up for a doctor’s appointment.

Police entered the home and found Ruth dead and detectives began investigating the case due to “suspicious circumstances.”  Her body was found in the swimming pool at her home with multiple cuts to the head. A coroner’s report listed drowning as the cause of death.

Over the next four weeks, detectives developed information and evidence leading to Cynthia Strange as the suspect, according to authorities. She was arrested on Oct. 2, 2018.
