Another weak opponent, another loss.
The Los Angeles Angels, who play well against good teams, lost to another weak one when they fell 9-1 to the Detroit Tigers (32-72) Wednesday in Anaheim.
That loss dropped the Halos to 56-54, still third in the AL West, but failing to gain ground in the AL Wild Card race.
Against the Tigers, they fell behind 4-1 after six innings and were blown out by five runs in the eighth. The sole Angel run was a home run by Mike Trout.
Detroit’s eighth-inning surge was based on a two-run home run by Brandon Dixon followed by a three-run blast by Gordon Beckham.
The loss went to Jose Suarez (2-2) and the most damage was done to Trevor Cahill, who yielded four hits, five runs and two home runs.
The Angels have the day off on Thursday and will start a road trip on Friday in Cleveland against the Indians (53-44).
