Approval of an employment agreement to hire a new city manager will top Monday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.

The name of the selected candidate is expected to be revealed by Friday.

Fred Wilson, who served for 10 years as the city’s top appointed official, retired in May. The current interim city manager is David Kiff, who was picked by the city council for that temporary post later that month.

Assistant City Manager Lori Ann Farrell-Harrison briefly held the interim job, but was hired to become the new city manager for Costa Mesa.

Also on the agenda for the meeting are:

  • approval of an update on the city’s strategic plan;
  • approval of an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad for a traffic signal crossing on Center Avenue near the Bella Terra shopping center.

The council meets in its chambers in the Civic Center at 2000 Main St. A study session is scheduled for 4 p.m., with a closed session at 5 p.m. and the regular meeting at 6 p.m.

The following council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 19.
