A Huntington Beach man will be arraigned on Aug. 16 in connection with the killing of two people in an April 2019 incident in Newport Beach.
According to the Orange County District Attorney, Jamon Rayon Buggs, 44, faces a minimum sentence of life in state prison or a maximum of the death penalty for the shooting death of Darren Donald Partch, 38, of Newport Beach and Wendi Sue Miller, 48, of Costa Mesa inside a home in the 2100 block of East 15th Street on April 21, 2019.
He will also be charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of attempted first degree burglary and a sentencing enhancement for personal discharge of a firearm causing death.
According to the OCDA, “there is no evidence that Miller had any interaction” with Buggs before the incident, although Miller and Partch were acquaintances.
Buggs had a prior “strike” for an assault on a police officer in San Diego County in 1995.
The arraignment will take place in Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach at 8:30 a.m.
