UPDATE: The death toll in the Odessa shooting has risen to seven, as two more people died from gunshot wounds inflicted during a rampage in Texas on Saturday. Another person is in a “life-threatening” condition according to local police.

The incident apparently began when the gunman – identified only as a white male in his 30s – was stopped by a state trooper for a minor traffic violation. The motorist opened fire on officers and fled in his vehicle, later hijacking a U.S. Postal Service vehicle and firing randomly at people near a movie theater before being killed himself.

Over 20 people in total were hit by gunfire.

More information should become available at a press conference scheduled for 9 a.m. Pacific time.
