Fall technically isn’t here yet, but we’re starting to get some autumnal weather and more life in local movie houses and on live stages. Here’s what’s up this week in the cities in The Tribune’s coverage area.
WEATHER: Down and up. The weather will be a bit of a tease this week, with temperatures moderate in the early part, then heating up by the coming weekend.
In Garden Grove and Stanton lows 80s to low 90s. In Westminster and Huntington Beach mid-70s to mid-80s. Sunny most of the week for the whole area with some morning clouds.
- Garden Grove and Stanton city councils will meet on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
- Westminster City Council meets on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
EVENTS: On Wednesday, a 9/11 remembrance will be held in the Westminster Civic Center at 10 a.m. Included will be a flag ceremony, a moment of silence and remarks.
ENTERTAIMENT: In local cinemas this week, you’ll find these major releases arriving:
- “The Goldfinch.” A boy whose mother was killed in a bombing holds on to a painting of a tiny bird chained to a perch. It’s rated R.
- “Hustlers” is the story of former strip club employees who turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. Stars Jennifer Lopez. Cardi B and Constance Wu. Rated R
The sole offering on a local live stage is “Lend Me A Tenor” at the Westminster Community Playhouse with performances Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and one on Saturday at 2 p.m. as well.
SPORTS: Some interesting local high school football games this week. If you’re into rivalry games, Western will play Anaheim in that city’s longest-running series, and Garden Grove will host Rancho Alamitos in a string that runs back to 1958. Both are on Friday.
The Los Angeles Angels are at home in Anaheim Monday through Wednesday against the White Sox, and then have Thursday off. A three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays (Friday through Sunday) will follow.
