A rare solid start by a pitcher wasn’t enough as the Los Angeles Angels lost 3-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday in Anaheim.

Jaime Barria (4-9) worked 5.1 innings, yielding just three hits and two runs, but the Halos continued their skid, losing their sixth consecutive game.

The Angels are now 67-82, and are guaranteed a losing record for 2019.  They haven’t had a winning season since 2015. They remain in fourth place in the American League West.

In the defeat, the Orange County team was led at bat by Brian Goodwin and Andrelton Simmons who each had two hits.

The Angels will try to avoid a sweep on Sunday when they host the Rays again on Sunday with Patrick Sandoval (0-3) making the start.

Panthers crush Canyon High, 66-6

Orange High’s football team rolled up a 52-6 halftime lead and went on to a 66-6 non-league victory Saturday night over Canyon High. The game was played at Brea-Olinda High School.

The Panthers are now 2-1 and will play at Westminster (0-3) on Thursday. The Lions lost 21-7 to Artesia on Friday.
