Good weather for space flight, more

BRAD PITT stars in “Ad Astra,” a science fiction film opening this week in local cinemas.

Fall officially arrives this week, and with it the full complement of football, sweaters and new movies … we hope. Here’s a look at the week ahead Monday through Sunday. Enjoy!

WEATHER:  Technically, it’s autumn but the weather will feel more like a nice summer day. In Garden Grove high temperatures will range from 81 to 82, with partly cloudy and sunny conditions. In Huntington Beach, a perfect 74 to 77 with similar weather. Westminster will be close to Garden Grove with highs at 81 and Stanton will be the warmest with temps ranging up to 87 degrees, but down to 77. No rain in the forecast.

ENTERTAINMENT: The top movie debuting this week will be “Ad Astra,” a science fiction film starring Brad Pitt. If you feel more like a blow-things-up film, try “Rambo: Last Blood” with Sylvester Stallone. Those are rated R. If your tastes are more genteel, a movie version of “Downton Abbey” is also opening and is rated PG.

  • Local live stage offerings this week include “Lend Me a Tenor” Friday through Sunday at the Westminster Community Playhouse and “Monty Python’s Spamalot” at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster with performances Friday through Sunday.

MEETINGS: The Huntington Beach City Council will meet on Monday at 6 p.m. with top items relating to the impact of AB 109 (effort to reduce state prison population) and Cal-PERS (state-managed public employee pension system) and sober living homes.

EVENTS: Here are some local happenings planned for the coming week.

  • “Surf City Sundown” runs (10k, 5k and 10-mile) at Huntington Beach Pier on Saturday.
  • “Dia de La Familia” at Sigler Park in Westminster from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
