Corona del Mar defeats Edison 42-7

Races for prep high school football crowns came into sharper focus with the results from Friday’s contests.

Corona del Mar set up what could be a battle for the Sunset League championship with a 42-7 win over Edison at Newport Harbor High.

The Sea Kings (7-0) will face Newport’s Sailors on Oct. 25 for what might be the crucial game.  NHHS defeated Huntington Beach 34-3 to run its overall record to 7-0 as well.

In Garden Grove League, Santiago moved into a tie for first place when it upset Rancho Alamitos 27-0. The Cavaliers (4-3 overall and 2-0 in league) are scheduled to meet La Quinta (3-4, 2-0) on Oct. 25.

Pacifica (4-3 overall) is in a three-way tangle for the Empire League lead after a 35-20 win over Kennedy. The Mariners are tied for the EL with Tustin and Cypress at 2-0 in conference action.

The M’s will take on the Tillers next Friday.
