Four local teams win CIF polo openers

Four boys water polo teams from area high schools survived the first round of the CIF-SS playoffs Tuesday. They’ll be in second round action on Thursday.

Edison, Pacifica, Marina and Western posted the wins. Here’s how each fared.

  • Edison, in Division 3 action, defeated Temple City 11-10 and will visit Santa Barbara.
  • Pacifica, in Division 4 action, defeated Glendale 21-17 and will host Esperanza at Ocean View High School.
  • Marina, in Division 5 play, defeated Estancia 12-6 and will visit Burroughs High of Burroughs.
  • Western, in Division 6, defeated La Quinta 18-8 and will host Whittier.

Los Amigos lost its D-5 match 20-7 to Trabuco Hills and Rancho Alamitos fell 17-4 to Valencia High of Placentia in a D-6 match.

Huntington Beach is slated to play Orange Lutheran today in a Division 1 contest.
