A wet but (we hope) wonderful week

RAIN is predicted for part of this Christmas week (Shutterstock).

‘Tis the season to be jolly, busy and a bit wet. Just as the holiday pace speeds up, the rate of local activity slows down. But here’s what the week looks like, anyway.

WEATHER:  The rain that was supposed to hit us on Sunday showed up on Monday instead and will be with us through Christmas and a bit beyond. According to the National Weather Service, highs in the area will be in the low 60s and high 50s, with lows in the mid- to low-40s. Rain is predicted for today (Monday), Wednesday and Thursday, clearing on Friday with clouds returning on Sunday.

GOVERNMENT: Most local government offices will be closed, starting on Tuesday through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.  Generally, trash pickup and street-sweeping will be delayed one day on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. As a general rule, government boards, councils and commissions won’t be meeting again until January.

ENTERTAINMENT:  Opening in local movie theaters this week on Wednesday are:

  • “Little Women”: Another film version of Louisa May Alcott’s classic tale. Rated PG.
  • “Spies in Disguise”: An animated secret agent story. Voices by Will Smith and Tom Holland. Rated PG.
  • “1917.” Gritty combat story set in the First World War. Rated R.

SPORTS: The Anaheim Ducks will be back in action at Honda Center Friday hosting the Las Vegas Golden Knights and Sunday hosting the Philadelphia Flyers.

To all our readers, advertisers and supporters, have a great and safe holiday season. As always, we’re here each day with the news (and more) of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.
