Spartans win, advance in playoffs

Orangewood Academy’s progress toward a possible state girls’ basketball title continued Tuesday night with a 66-59 win over Bonita Vista on the Spartan hardwood in Garden Grove.

Led by Sydney Gandy (27 points) and Elodie Lalotte (14 points and 19 rebounds),  Orangewood (27-6) will play again on Thursday in the second round of the CIF So Cal Division 1 Regionals. The Spartans will travel to San Diego to take on Cathedral Catholic (19-11), which had a first round bye.

Softball

  • La Quinta 8, Century 3: The Aztecs are 7-1 after their win. Nicole Takao pitched five strong innings for the blue-and-gold, and the offense was led by Ryann Nadeau (single, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs) and Xochiti Esparza (single, double and two RBIs).
