Diedre Thu-Ha Nguyen will face Janet Nguyen in the run-off for the 72nd Assembly District seat in the November general election.
The Orange County Registrar of Voters today (Monday) certified results of the primary election on March 3, and the Garden Grove councilmember edged out incumbent Tyler Diep – a former member of the Westminster City Council – 30,021 votes to 29,186 votes, a margin of 835 votes.
Under California’s non-partisan primary voting system, the top two vote-getters advance to the general election. As it turns out, Janet Nguyen is a Republican and a former state senator and Diedre Thu-Ha Nguyen is a Democrat. Diep is a Republican.
In the race for the First District seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Sergio Contreras will face off against incumbent Andrew Do in November.
Contreras, a member of the Westminster City Council, polled 21,721 votes to Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido’s 19,616 votes – a margin of 2,105 votes – in the race for second place.
